Periodically throughout the year, a Wednesday evening Bible Study group meets, focusing on specific themes, books or books of the Bible. There is a five week session in the fall, a four week session during the season of Lent, and also three consecutive evenings of adult Bible Study that coincide with our annual Vacation Bible School week in June. LENTEN STUDY – MARCH 13, 20 APRIL 3, 10, 2019
This year’s Lenten Study will be held on four Wednesday evenings during Lent—March 13 and 20, and April 3 and 10—and will focus on well-intentioned things Christians say that may or may not match what we find in Scripture. Inspired by Kate Bowler’s book Everything Happens for a Reason . . . And Other Lies I’ve Loved, we will explore statements we have all heard, and perhaps have made ourselves, and seek to find better and more helpful ways to respond to what happens in our lives and in the lives of those around us. Among the statements we will be considering are: Everything happens for a reason (it was God’s will); God never gives you more than you can handle; prosperity is an indication that God is pleased with you, while difficulty and hardship indicate that you are doing something wrong; if you pray hard enough and have enough faith, your prayers will be answered in the way you want them to be answered. We will meet in the Library at 7:30 PM. We hope you will join us!
SMALL GROUPS OF ST. JOHN’S MEMBERS WHO MEET REGULARLY
There are a number of small groups that meet regularly throughout the year and welcome new members at all times. They include a monthly Saturday morning retreat for women, a men’s breakfast that meets monthly at area restaurants, a Monday evening prayer group, St. John’s Prayer Shawl Ministry, St. John’s Quilters & St. John’s Stampers (see more under Missions tab), St. John’s Health Ministry Team (see more below), St. John’s Gardeners, and “Breaking Bread”, an informal dining and fellowship group which gathers the 2nd Sunday of the month at a local restaurant after the 10:15 am worship service – all are welcome to attend any month you are available – see the Herald for details.

St. John’s Health Ministry Team
Our St. John’s Health Ministry Team meets regularly to provide health and wellness services to our congregation. It is comprised of members of St. John’s who are trained for and/or work in the health care field. They are also “on standby” should any medical situation or emergency arise during worship services or any events at St. John’s. Our St. John’s Health Ministry Team offers regular blood pressure screenings after worship on a monthly basis at the church as well as other special services – check the Enlightener & Herald for schedules.
St. John’s Health Ministry is collecting & re-purposing empty, clean medicine pill bottles. A collection container is available in the church library. If you have been recycling your pill bottles, thank you! If not, please bring your empty pill bottles (with labels removed) to church & place them in the designated container. These pill bottles will be collected for use in impoverished countries.
Shelly Longcoy (R.N.) of our team is offering a support group called “Help Yourself to Healthy Living” on the 4th Thursday of each month. Each month Shelly will discuss a different health/wellness related topic followed by a discussion period. Contact Shelly at [email protected]
Umbrella Ministry – Want to join a group with no meetings? Our St. John’s Umbrella Ministry is for you! Simply pick a Sunday you are available, sign up on the bulletin board in the hall outside the Library, and come by 9:45 am that Sunday. Responsibilities are to greet the congregation using the ramp entrance, open the door for those coming in, & help when it is raining by helping people in with an umbrella. New volunteers are always welcome and it’s a fun way to meet and greet your fellow St. John’s members & guests!
Details regarding all of the small groups meeting at St. John’s can be found in our bi-weekly Herald , weekly church bulletin & the monthly Enlightener. See our Publications page to read these publications on our website.
