SMALL GROUPS OF ST. JOHN’S MEMBERS WHO MEET REGULARLY – SOCIAL & SERVICE GROUPS
St. John’s Garden Committee
In the spring, the Church gardens need to be planted, weeded and mulched. Volunteers are appreciated! Then in the summer:
We need help removing the dead flowers and watering the plants. Here is how it works – a schedule will be posted here in the summer.
You sign up for a week at a time, and you decide when you want to do it. Hopefully, we need the gardens to look good for Sundays when more people are around. Your week will start on Sunday through the next Saturday.
Most areas have soaker hoses on timers, so you only need to remove the spent flowers, in particular the geraniums. And you will need to check the potted plants, depending on the weather, since they dry out quickly in hot weather. You do not need to check the Rose Garden or the Labyrinth garden, since we will monitor that.
If you are single and need help, let us know and we will try to get help for you. Remember that God is in charge, and sometimes he sends rain, with special nutrients built in. You may luck out on that week!
If you can help, please email Don Atkiss in the spring at datkiss@comcast.net or call Don at 215-872-7487.
There are a number of small groups that meet regularly throughout the year and welcome new members at all times. They include a monthly Saturday morning retreat for women, a Men’s Breakfast that meets monthly at area restaurants, St. John’s Praying Hands Stitchers, St. John’s Stampers (see more under Missions tab), St. John’s Health Ministry Team (see more below), St. John’s Gardeners – all are welcome to attend any month you are available – see the Herald or bulletin for details.
Periodically throughout the year, a Wednesday evening Bible Study group meets, focusing on specific themes, books or books of the Bible. There is a five week session in the fall, a five week session during the season of Lent. Check our publications and the Adult Bible Study page of this website for current information.
St. John’s Hospitality Teams
Our St. John’s Hospitality Teams (previously “ushers”) voluntarily work before and during our 10:15 am worship service. We currently have 5 teams which rotate duties monthly. The main duty of our team members is to help greet persons arriving for worship while directing them into the sanctuary. Team members stand in the Narthex, Library doorway and the ramp door. During worship, our teams take a count of how many persons are attending worship that day. They also watch for and help anyone who might have a special need or questions. Toward the end of each service, a team member brings the offering plates forward during our doxology. Our hospitality teams can always use additional members – speak with an hospitality team captain or one of our pastors to get started.
St. John’s Health Ministry Team
Our St. John’s Health Ministry Team meets regularly to provide health and wellness services to our congregation. It is comprised of members of St. John’s who are trained for and/or work in the health care field. They are also “on standby” should any medical situation or emergency arise during worship services or any events at St. John’s.
Details regarding all of the small groups meeting at St. John’s can be found in our bi-weekly Herald, weekly church bulletin & the monthly Enlightener. See our Publications page to read these publications on our website.
